    Seeking Knight's Cross Holder

I'm looking for information as to where and for what Otto Trinko, Feldwebel, 4.(MG)/GrenRgt 577, 305. Infanterie-Division was awarded the Knight's Cross on April 30, 1945. If anyone has any information, or directions to promising venues for finding this information, I would greatly appreciate it. New here.

      Yes...

It was at the tail end of the Italian Campaign. I'm trying to find the location more specifically, and if possible some description of the deed that earned him the award. Do such records exist?

I am also trying to find information on the deeds of an RKT who was awarded his RK in April '45 as well.

I can say from experience that finding information so close to the end of the war is difficult.

So I would also appreciate advice if anyone has some.

        Matt

PS I am looking for info on the deeds of RKT Hans Meyer zur Heyde

I'm sorry, but I am still surprised to read each and every day here on WAF how many collectors put faith into dealers' statements on the provenance of a certainKC, usually based on nothing....

I wouldn't put so much emotion and passion into such a piece if I had not collected it from the family personally.

              Sorry if I'm spoiling things....

The RK of Meyer zur Heyde came from the son, if I remember correctly.

                  Reason

I'm trying to find out about Feldwebel Otto Trinko, 4.(MG)/GrenRgt 577, 305. Infantarie-Division because I believe he may have won his award during a fight against my Grandfather's Battalion on April 30, 1945 (my Grandfather was acting battalion commander at the time). Does anyone know how I might find out more about the circumstances and location of the deed which earned him the award?

So am I just out of luck, then?

Does the lack of response indicate that I should give up persuing this?

I've been looking but no luck yet. Give me sometime and I'll see if I can come up with the photo today.

                      Regards,
                      Sepp.

                          I would...

Sepp, thanks! I look forward to hearing whether you can find anything. Jon, I would post pics, but I don't have posession of it. My Grandfather was in 3rd Bn, 86th Regt, 10th Mountain Division. I am currently writing a book about that unit, and I'm trying to include a fair amount from the German perspective as well. In my research I discovered that Otto Trinko (305.Infanterie-Division) had won his medal on April 30, 1945. 3rd Bn of the 86th spent 20 hours fighting a conglomerate force that included some elements of the 305th in Torbole, Italy. I have had incredible trouble finding any information about anything from the Germans after the Allies reached the Po River.
