    Oak Leaves with RK

    Gentlemen,

Hermann Historica has posted their lots for the upcoming auction and it includes a grouping to an Oak Leaves winner. The pictures are somewhat detailed and include an obverse and reverse shot.

I will take the first 'shot' and claim that this appears to be an original 1st pattern set of Godet Oak Leaves and an early L/12 800 marked Junker's Knight's Cross.

    The consensus is......

      Beautiful set.

"Heinrich Ochs was a Platoon Leader in the 1st Company of the 101 Tank Destroyer Battalion of the 101 Jäger Division. Promoted to Lieutenant for gallantry in action, then posthumously to First Lieutenant. For his decisive action in re-taking a strong point at Krymskaja he was awarded the 1821st Knights Cross. He was the 360th recipient of the Oak Leaves, but did not survive for the award, as he was killed in action on 21 October 1943 by artillery 45 km south of Saporoshje."

In the family's possession since award date, that's why they look so nice!

              Hello Guys-

There is a RK grouping below that I am interested in bidding on. Do you submit the maximum bid that you would pay on the sheet, or is this automatically taken as your bid? In other words, do they start at the reserve and bid up relative to other prices with proxy bids for you unitl you achieve your max, like on ebay? Thanks for any help.

That L/12 800 marking. Is it stamped to the frame after the frames was soldered together ?

                      Cheers.

                        That stamping sure looks strange.

Peter, If you mean the slight "step" in the level of the edge of the arm just where the stamp is, I don't think this is necessarily distortion caused by stamping after assembly. This step is not unknown on Juncker pieces. Just bad finishing.

Just an observation and please correct me if I am wrong. But the oakleaves look like they are silver plated and at the back you can see some of the plating coming off. Is the marking not for solid silver? Or was it for silver plating too?

Looks to me like some sort of frosting, rather than silver plating.
