It's rust.
Never seen a non-magnetic round 3 that was original ( seen them with a non-magnetic core, but fake)
Value?
That is up to you.
Since you can find a nice one w/out rust at about 225 / 250 I would go for one in good condition.
If you really want it, I think it's really paid with about 160/170 E...
Best regards,
Ben

It is magnetic, I just tested it. But I know it is 100% original. It was recovered by my grandfather in the late 70s from the grounds of the German pow camp at fort crockett in Galveston Tx.My grandfather was a pow there until 1947. In the late 70s they turned the area into a luxury hotel & he was friends with the owner of the company who did the construction. He was also givena ground dug HJ (!?!?) buckle, several kvk 2nd class w/ swords, various wreaths & cocades, eagles, & medals. My grandfather was in 16th SS "Reichsführer SS" div captured by american forces at anzio.
Now, can anyone describe to me the detail behind a "round 3" ek? First Im ever hearing about it but Im a waffen ss collector. I do have several EKII & want to see if I have others! Thanks for all info & helpOriginally posted by ben bijker View PostIt's rust.
