nice pieces! However i believe that these "austrian mount" is all post-war made.

                many greetings,
                Stefan

Yes Stefan some people do They could be home made, period made or post war made..

I have studied these and seen trifold in wear in period photos.

Its a low cost risk and they look great as a crown on period medals.

Thats "Austrian trifold mount" are the continue of tradition born so many years ago during WWI.

Infact so many EKI 1914, and very large ribbon bar, are mounted on same mode and are all made during WWI.

                    Happy Holidays

Of course an austria-hungarian soldier receiving the ek during the ww1 would mount the medal in austrian style. But during the second worldwar austria didnt exist anymore, it was part of the german reich and all austrian soldiers were part of the german army. They had to follow the same rgulations concerning medals etc.
I am an austrian myself and i have never seen or heard of anybody wearing that kind of ribbon during tha war, and i think it would not have been accepted. But after the war the soldiers of course wore them trifold again, since the new austrian bundesheer as every other organisations awarding medals used the trifold ribbon.

I am always willing to learn and i would love to see a trifold ribbon on a period picture.
