oval ring on a maker "65" EK 2

    hello all forum members

i've been a member for a while now but i never posted (lots and lots of reading to do here )
i am richard van kempen and i started collecting a few months ago
(well i bought this EK 2a few years back when i wanted to start but i couldn't find the refferance books for it and now i have some...but that doesn't cover everything

    well here is my question

i have a "65" EK 2 with an oval ring
the EK is original only i want to know :

where there many like this or where they typical for this maker??

could someone help me with the pictures?

    regards
    Richard van Kempen

oh yes the old "65" it is a Klein and Quenzer and it is often sought after due to its quality (at least by me). K&Q make the EKI and the Knights Cross as well. K&Q also made quite a few of the EKII's as there were numerous EKII's awarded.

Enjoy you have a good maker.

      Richard,

The oval ring should be a deformation caused by pressure on the ring. No EK2s with oval rings as far as I know, be it "65"s or of any other maker.

        hello munich and ranger

        munich you say:
The oval ring should be a deformation caused by pressure on the ring

what kind of pressure?? natural or man made or pressure when the medal was produced ?

the ring was surely made by human hands

would you mind if i send you the pictures so you can post it for all to see and say something about it ?

          Hi Richard,

Yes, send them to me (frank@fishtankgames.com). I was talking about pressure as in deformed by man made pressure and not by a machine during the production.

            Hello All,

I have seen an EK2 or two with deformed rings on medal bars. Perhaps the ring was deformed to improved the placement of the EK2 on the bar. Who knows. The deformed ring was not limited to K&Q.

I have seen many more medal bars where the EK2's ring was not deformed.

There was a post a while back where the ring was deformed, and it resembled a tear drop.

Definitely looks like someone has bent it at some stage, I have never seen or heard of oval ring EK 2’s before. You can see the mark on the left side of the ring where it is deformed. This could have been done for any number of reasons, such as a medal bar mounting or maybe for the Knight’s Cross ribbon to fit though, who knows?
