Many thanks for your interesting observations! I too have noticed a real difference in the finish of Junckers compared to W&L.
One other observation is that Juncker never used the same durable, flashy silvering process that W&L used for the frame flanges. So today the crosses have aged very differently and it is usually possible, even on an unmarked cross, to guess whether it is a Juncker or a W&L, even if the frame might be the same. One good example is this cross, which I still think is a legitimate Juncker EK2.
One can also see quite clearly that Juncker manufactured their own crosses, even when they used W&L parts. For example, all Juncker EK1 screwbacks (even those with W&L frames or cores) use a different width of screwpost and thread than W&L -- the traditional Juncker screwpost, which does not fit a W&L disc. So unlike Godet/Zimmermann, in which I believe Godet bought crosses pre-made from Zimmermann (and others), I think Juncker only bought components from other makers like W&L.
By the way I think these photos may show the manufacture of the very earliest Juncker -- the Juncker Schinkel. In the (marvelous!) photo of the "proto-RK" we can almost see the flaws in the inside corners of the frame, and I do not detect the traditional "crunched-bead" of the 2nd Juncker wartime frame. Also, the core in the new photo of the die shows the wonderful, traditional early Juncker design.
Here is the cross I think they are showing manufactured (in both classes):

That's a facinating presentation, thanks for putting it together. The "prototype" RK is great. I feel for the gentleman spraying cores, he looks a little bored. I wonder, with his younger age, whether he couldn't be called up (unfit) or had not yet been so? I think I would have found the soldering work rather nerve wracking
