Jim, I'd be a bit concerned regarding a claim of any sort of pre '45 let alone S&L...however for discussion, may we see better pictures?

Even these (loops) have their signature!!
          Regards,
          Dave

Jim, it's my gut feeling that in fact it isn't but I left an 'out' by asking for better pictures....the 'finish' to the ends leaves me in doubt!
              Regards,
              Dave

Jim, early S&L may have rounded tips and later loops more conical and even showing 'grind' marks! However, the pics you present show a different finishing with one end rather cut off at an angle with the other appearing rounded! Then, without clear pics we can't discuss the font of the stamping....all and each contributing to a 'signature'!
                  Regards,
                  Dave

                        I know the feeling!

C'mon you'll get it...just 'aim' for the tips!
                        Regards,
                        Dave
