Thanks for the kind comments guys. There is actually an interesting story behind this award. I bought this and a beautiful Zimmerman German Cross in gold from a certain Wing Commander . . ....... DFC, AFC, MID RAF (Retired) and I'll quote here part of a letter of provenance I got off him re the awards.
" The background to the German decorations is an unusual sort of a story.
I was serving in Stockholm. Sweden, after Germany capitulated. A few of our Legation (not from the Air Attache's office), examined the German Legation.
They were "good guys" and gave me the two decorations you so generously purchased, I kept them carefully, saw your advert "etc etc.
That really is the background to my aquiring this fantastic award. To my regret I sold the DK but another forum member proudly owns it.Comment
