Hello,
A friend of mine is looking to purchase this cross from another friend, who bought it in the past few years from a Florida auction house. I would like to get your opinions as to originality of the cross itself and then the engraving. I have taken photos in full sun and shadow - sorry for the poor quality but hopefully enough for you DK experts to make a call. I have looked but have been unable to match is to any listed maker, though it may come close to some versions attributed to Deschler und Sohn.
The engraving is very odd. It is more like a stencil paint or something. I can feel no engraving indentions or raised areas, so not sure how it is applied. It does match to a COL Bronislaw Pawel of the 15th Inf Div who was awarded a cross on the date listed on the reverse of the cross.
Measurements are as follows:
total weight 47 grams
total width 66.5 mm
dark star width 62mm
gold wreath 39mm
Swastika width (square) 21.5mm
Swastika arm width 4mm
space between swastika arms 4mm
Thank you,
Dale
