Inscribed War Merit Cross with Swords 1st Class

I came across this and was curious to see what you guys thought. The "story" is that the guy I got it from bought it in a 2nd hand store and the woman said her father brought it back while in Italy.
The story is not very convincing but I could not find the General Wilhelm Helfer that is inscribed on the back. What do you think overall of the medal? Does anyone feel that the inscription could be real?

I do Not like the inscription.
The Cross looks ok, but to be 100% sure, wait for the more experienced in the War Merit Cross.

Well, if he was a general, he wouldn't have been born in 1923.

And he sure didn't win it in 1923.

It's not a Feldpost number.

And KVKs weren't numbered like party badges.

Or a unit designation....

So it basically makes no sense.

Yeah I do not know, the date did not make any sense to me either. Its a mystery to me.

I could find no German General by that name either ?? Only hit was an SA General named Wilhelm Helfer ? The cross itself is a good one however. Yes, a mystery ! Tom
