no sense to get posthumously LDO case IMO

An anomaly, yes. But the anomaly lies not in the fact that the set was posthumously awarded in an LDO case, but in the fact that it is a second pattern Godet oaks in a LDO case. The set came directly from the family in Berlin into an older collection, along with many other items of Marcks. Given that everything was handed into the PZK after the ban on the sale of commercial pieces, it is not unreasonable for a post-LDO piece to be issued in any available stock case, whether LDO marked or not.

RK awarded to Generalleutnant Wilhelm Falley
            Kommandeur Infanterie-Regiment 4 / 32.Infanterie-Division
            Awarded on: November 26th, 1941

Falley was the first German general to fall in action during the Normandy landings. On D-Day, he was returning from Rennes, where a war game had been organized by the German High Command, to his Division headquarters, in Picauville. Falley was killed in an ambush carried out by paratroopers of the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division, on the country road outside the rear wall of the German 91st Infantry Division's headquarters, Chateau de Bernaville, in Picauville, southwest of Sainte-Mère-Église, Normandy.

Was Major Waldemar Gerlach, fighting in the Denmark/ Norway campaign? Fancy winning the award the day before the Battle of France

If you mean Zepper, so yes, most likely. IMO.
