The Challenge I have is to remove all the badges without causing any damage.

I think the best method is going to be destroy the leather of the belt

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Many thanks
    Doug

      Hi Doug,

How about leaving it the way it is? It's a WWII version of a hate belt -- these are collectible in their own right.
      Best regards,

I have to agree with the above, an expensive belt none the less and some very nice badges on it...

          Thanks Streptile and Napalm,
I do have quite a financial investment in this collection and need to part with some of the pieces.

I do like the idea of keeping it together but sadly needs must

          Best regards
          Doug

            Very nice.

You don't say or show how the badges are attached and while i assume its using the pins, the pins don't appear to pierce right through the belt. If you can show the attachment method better, you may gèt better advice on removal.

As an aside, presume it's the photo but that 39 ek1 does have a date right?

              Hi Biro,
the badges are mounted in a cut out V at the top of the belt and the hook is pierced through the belt and the pin placed in to it as normal.
There has been an additional cut down belt riveted to the inside of the outer (badged) belt to prevent snagging of the hooks and pins presumably.
              All the best
              Doug

If you have to pull it apart that sounds the best way. Remove the rivets holding the inner belt and unclip everything.

I'd think long and hard before going ahead with a plan to dismantle that belt. Consider selling off other items or even the belt as a whole then using the proceeds to make future purchases.

                  Regards,
                  Stu
PS: I do understand that these decisions are tough as we can't keep it all.

Don't cut it is the best . If you have to separate them , a shears and a very sharp scalpel is necessary . And the belt will be cut into Small pieces so that you needn't bent the pins of badges . The best way is find a collector who will collect it as a whole group .
                    Kind Regards

Sadly the belt has already been damaged just by making the hate belt thing up so unless someone wants to buy a hate belt I would imagine that it would be broken up by a very happy buyer anyway. Rotten that you have to sell it in the first place.

Looks like it's destined to be dismantled.

I don't really sit in the don't dismantle it club, this time. The badges don't really relate to each other and a collector would probably not sink that kind of money in to the whole piece as it is now as collectors will want to display the individual badges. It's not one guys grouping as such so is not really what I would call a group.

Just nice to see a British vet hoard find for a change!

I can understand that. Best of luck.
