I've bought this cross ( don't worry, I paid only the price of the original case ) and these are the new pics:

              Ciao Valsente,
from this pictures I confirm my first opinion, the engravure is made by numeric control machine, the font are modern and the height of engraving is ever the same.

I don't see also the classic hardware S&L on back especially the typical catch.

Also the 1939 date is made with wrong font type.

In my opinion you bought the wrong cross; only the other one has any chance of being authentic. This one is a crude fake.

here are pitures of the other cross for those who were interested in that topic. Its a nice late war "26".

                    greetings,

                      Congratulations on a fine Mayer.

Do you think the engraving is authentic (period)?
                      Best regards,

I cannot say if the engraving is period or not. At least i think so, otherwise i wouldnt have bought the cross. What is your opinion?

My opinion (for what it's worth - probably nothing) is you have research to do, to see if there's any rhyme or reason for this engraving. That's the only way to show that there was any connection with it being on an EK 1.

                          Still, nice cross.

Thanks hank! My guess is that this bug was the mascot or sign on the tower of The submarine.
