EKII- Iron Cross 2nd Class - Ubergrosse ID? Value?

    Hello,

I know this Iron Cross is the one that is bigger than the regular Iron Cross. If I'm not mistaken is the "oversize" Ubergrosse one? I know the frame is wider than normal but I can't recall exactly. I know I read that in the forums somewhere. I used to know..

IS this cross real? and also what is the estimate value? I'm positive the cross is good but I'm not sure about the envelope where it was given to the soldiers. Thanks so much!

    Hi Mimee

I'll start with the packet. Well, actually I'll quote from another thread to save time:

No one quite knows if they are real, or reproductions, although most believe them to be real (including me).

No CF&G crosses have ever been identified, although it is (obviously) very likely that they did make EK2s. As your cross seems to be a fairly standard type, I would guess that it has some chance of being a CF&G, but I also think you will probably never know for sure. Most likely it was just added to this Packet by a collector -- many, many crosses are added to these Packets.

    The Packets are extremely common.
This post includes a picture of a LARGE quantity of the CFG packets.

      Hi,
IMO this is fake one - I've seen this core in few fakes.

The cross is most certainly not an Übergroße. What are its measurements?

I don't know this type of cross, and wouldn't have it in my collection.

Is not an ubergrosse? That was my guess though. All I know is considered a "wide framed" version. I know there is those around seen them mentioned around here somewhere. I'll take measurements when I get home.

They don't. We keep them hidden in small boxes set off to the side to remind us where we started, and to keep them from being pawned off on unsuspecting new collectors by people with no morals or scruples.
