    Hi Douglas,

    Fair enough.

    Mayer may have struck additional dies from their traditional, second and final core design, but the overall numeral design remains fundamentally the same. Honestly I haven't spent the time to compare examples of Mayer's traditional core design to distinguish minute variations.

    Whereas the design of their first core, which we see in the thread-starter EK2, is a totally different design.

    So perhaps it is better to say that Mayer used two distinct core designs.
    Best regards,
    Streptile

      Trevor;
      So to group these then we have 2 core designs with a few die variations :
      The EK2 core being their own design - flat top 1 and numbers with oval balls ...
      and the EK1s having the second design with a pointy 1 and oval or round balls .
      This also means that 'C' the marked 26 EK1 Evilmike has here - from the Godet like core design is suspect .
      Finaly to get back to the ' first core '(sincular) in the EK2 tread starter you are saying Mayer made EK2s first for awile and then designed an independant second core for the EK1 which can be seen in the early silver frame EK1 I have shown .
      I cannot immagin this was something makers did ... to start off with EK2s first and then later fase in the EK1s ?? I would think demand for EK1s would have been needed instantly with the first EK2s ? There should be 2 first cores ... unless you have information that Mayer started with only EK2s first .

          very intersting thread.

          Hope we will get a foto of the number design from the EK2.

          Here a bad exemple how a scan can change! And this scanner looks not too bad in the light angle

            I used the scanner years ago and found out quickly how distorting it is for feature details . Like the sample you made ... and turning the award around .
            Camera is all I use now .

              Time for an Epson then. Looks like you were using a shusuki cheapo model.
