Whatever the outcome, any comparisons of 'finshing techniques' can surely only apply using STONE MINT pieces.....
We can certainly rule out all of the following in used pieces..
'Frosting' (as patina and 'general wear' in anything other than a mint piece create too much of a variable - e.g. the 'black stuff!...)
'filing' is filing (and well covered)
silver and maker-mark stamping is hand-done, and subtly unique to each piece
ring shape, cross-hatching, bead-counts, dates, stepped swaz's etc... are of course die characteristics as opposed to finishing techniques...
So what else IS there?
Man this could get 'subtle'....and unfortunately, I don't own a mint anything!..
