The history of a DKig unfolds

About 18 months ago Paul W posted on Estand a nicely worn DKiG for sale what really drew my attraction to it it had the soldiers scratched into the back. A short while later i had some research done and I mangaged to recover his service record including photo.
    Leutnant Wilhelm Wineberger Geb Jag R 98 .A true combat soldier earning many awards including Wound badge black 15.6.40 , EK2 30.6.40 , Inf assault 4.10.40 , EK1 20.7.41 , DKiG 4.7.42 , Ost med 1.8.42 , Nahkampfsp 27.6.43 .
If anyone has anymore info on my man i would love to hear from you

Well done! It isn't often that you re-complete the history of an item.

One of that class of professional pre-war NCOs who made such excellent platoon and company leaders.

From that kompanie alone 3 men won the RK but Wineberger was the only man to gain the DKiG. One of these was Carl Rall, who just like Wineberger, was a professional NCO that got comissioned, he was kompanie chef when Wineberger got his DKiG. Yet another man, Hptm. Sigwart Göller got the EBS whilst kompanie chef of the 11th and later went on to get both the DKiG and RK as battalion commander.

It's always a great feeling when you can reunite an item with a name.
