    Spange in Gold color

In viewing a color picture of Eugen Meindl it appears that he is wearing a gold spange above his WWI EK. I thought the spange was always silver. Is this a general officer option?

    Hi
Is this s colorized photo? I have seen more than one instance where the person adding color to the original black and white got the colors wrong. Also, sometimes a color photo in one publication looks much different than the same photo in a different publication just due to the different processing. Did I use the word "different" enough times in that last sentence? It might help if you could post the original image that you are referring to in your question.

Probably a trick of lighting, or the silvering wore off the Spange, revealing the copper color underneath.

There are no golden EK Spangen.

      Can you post the photo?

You didn´t have to wear a tie if you were wearing the KC.

                    Thanks For Replies

Streptile - thanks for posting the pic, that is the one I was referring to. I doubt that this is a "colorization" problem as everything else in the pic appears to be the correct color. Its probably a correct assumption that wear to the silver finish is allowing plating underneath to bleed through.

Tinmantis - Just got back from Michael's to get some gold paint. I've got a gold spange for you......sell it cheap. It will really enhance your collection!

And if that is an Eastern Front ribbon, the black stripe has disappeared and the white stripes are yellow just like the spange.
