    WWI EK2 Construction

    Hello:

Quick question...just learning. Was the WW1 EK2 of three piece construction or solid stamped in one piece?

    Thanks:

    Robert

--3-piece, generally. You will find the 1 piece 1914 EK2's are usually crappy fakes mostly made of lead. There are real ones, supposedly, but I wouldn't bother... A 1st Class solid version, yes. These are relatively common.

      WW1 EK2's

      Thanks Bill:

I've noticed diverences in WWI EK2's...a "convex" narrow armed version and a thicker "RK" version...

What's with this?...AND...are there similar 'variants' in WWII EK2's and RK's?

--Those 1914 Iron Crosses made during the time of the 3rd Reich resembled that period's crosses as the frames were the same. You will usually see this more with 1st Class versions. 1939 crosses and those `14's produced at this time are stockier.
--There are also 1939 crosses made early in the war with the old frames. These are called 'Schinkleform' crosses and are scarce but not unattainable.
--There are also 2nd Class versions of the 1939 2 which are noticable larger in size, more akin to a Knight's Cross. These are also scarce (but again, not unattainable).
