    RK prices

I am not sure if this is the appropriate venue, but I had a general question regarding the price of RKs from dealers, as well as private individuals. I am strictly discussing purchase prices, as there is always a "bid/ask" gap. What would fellow members consider a reasonable/unreasonable price for

    1. An 800 marked early junckers RK with case and ribbon

    2. A upright 2 marked junckers RK with case and ribbon

Both crosses are in good condition with wear, but no rust. Any comments/thoughts? Thanks

8250 Euros for both...the unmarked pieces are the ones that are attracting a lot of attention at the moment.

      Thanks Chris-

You have dealt with RKs quite extensively over the past several years and your opinion is much appreciated. Suppose, for the sake of argument, that a 800 marked junckers RK was for sale by a dealer. Suppose that price was about $14,500. Would that be unreasonable for such a piece, given the fact that the unmarked 800 is relatively more desireable? Thanks- Tom H

        Wanting One

It is my goal to one day own an orriginal RK, without buying a relic, what is a good low end price for a maker marked RK?
Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china...
        All the best,
        Chris

          Hi Tom...
It really depends on how much I wanted one (!).....on todays market more than 11,000 Euros for a cased 800 Junckers is rather high. Actually, Carsten Baldes sold one in the last couple of days which was a little beauty at 6,000 without a case....that was an exceptional deal for the lucky buyer. Add a case to it and it coume in at around the 7500 Euro range for comparison.

Apart from Pieter's nickle framed very early one, the desirability value for me is the 800 dot, the 800 then the L/12....with the 2/Lazy2 set coming in at the end (still very desirable crosses, but the least so of the Junckers family for me). The quality of the Junckers appear to be higher with the earlier varieties, which were a couple of grams lighter than the ususal L/12's and Lazy2's.

I remember paying 3000 US dollars for a lazy2 not so long ago as i really wanted it for a set...and it was considered that I had paid too much...not much chance of getting one for that price these days, I fear.

5500 to 6000 Euros will get you a nice used K&Q if you shop around..if you can get one cheaper then you will have a good deal. I stress "used" rather than damaged.
            Good hunting !

Thanks Chris- That is an excellent reference point. I would think that a cased "800" junckers art $14,500 would be a little high? I guess one simply needs to be patient. Thanks again for the input and all the help!

                Tom,

Remember the 11.000,00 Chris notes is in Euros - this equates to a little over $13,500 today - because of the exchange. He is also correct that prices for RK "rare" varients is driven by how much a particular collector wants that varient. Chris states he values the 800 "dot" version the highest. My guess is he might pay a little more than myself for that type of RK.

A "800" (only) marked Juncker is a rare bird indeed. If you have interest in such a cross I would try to bargain with the person who owns it now. IMHO the early 800 and unmarked Junckers, along with the 3/4 loop ones, should be considered the RK for the pure collector. If your intention is to own only 1 RK for your collection - many other types can be had for less money. If someday you would like "a full set" of RK varients this would be a must for your collection. And also like Chris intimates - they won't be going down in value.

                Again . . . only my opinion.

                Regards,

Thanks very much for the information, Rich. There is one for sale right now for $14,500 (cased), but I thought that was quite high. As Chris points out, one sold a few days ago, which I missed, on Carsten Baldes site for 6000 euros, which is about $7300, uncased. This makes the $14,500 cross seem a litte high, relative to even recent dealer prices.

Thanks for the information regarding the 800 juncker. You and Chris are seasoned collectors and your opionions are very much appreciated. I have PMed a few dealers to be on the lookout for one, but we will see. Thanks again, both of you guys, for the information.

                    Welcome

                    Tom,

                    You are welcome.

I didn't see the cross on Carsten's site so I cannot comment on that particular RK, but I would be surprized to see an early Juncker for the price of a 65/800. One of the people I know in Germany would have normally let me know if such an item appeared.

If you p.m. me and let me know what type you are looking for I can ask around and see what is available.

                    Regards,
                    Rich Moran

Here is a only 800 marked Juncker. As for the value of these pieces…………………… priceless.

                        Beautiful

                        Pascal,

                        A beautiful piece.

If you compare Pascal's to the one on the site mentioned - IMHO - at the very least - the eye attachment is very different. This might explain the relative low price.

                        Regards,
                        Rich
