            Beautiful set.

In my opinion this is the correct case for this cross, and it's also the earliest WWII EK1 case made. I have seen this type of case with a real wooden insert (in fact I have one), which I am sure must be the earliest of the earliest cases, as they switched to compressed cardboard soon after the start of the war.

I think your case may have a wooden insert also.
            Best regards,
            Streptile

                      Hi Trevor,

could be early but imo not the earliest WWII EK1 Case
I would say that the following case are the earliest WWII Case!
Case No. 1 was the bed of PM Schinkel EK1 1939.
Case No. 2 was the bed of an unmarked 24 Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Hanauer Plakettenhersteller.

Maybe some more collectors had Schinkel EK1 placed in this thin type of EK1 case.

                        Hi 5tefan,

Yes, you have shown some very beautiful and uncommon EK1 cases

In my opinion the case shown by burnout is still earlier than the ones (with the double-bordered EK stamp) that you show. Those have what looks to me like mid-war construction techniques -- the pressed cardboard insert and squared-off corners, for example.

The case for burnout's cross has a very low profile, rounded corners, almost white fabric on the bed, and probably a wooden insert. To me, his case seems the earliest because of its design, materials, and construction techniques. Also, I have had this case with only three crosses -- all the very earliest types (Meybauer Schinkel, Juncker Schinkel, and Unknown Maker Round-3).

However, all this is speculation, and EK1 cases is a subject about which we need to do much, much more research in order to say anything definitive. So really I could be wrong, or we could both be right -- the cases could both be the earliest types, made by different makers at the same time.
                        Best regards,
                        Streptile
