    unmarked German Cross in Gold by Deschler up for vetting

    Hello,

    I would need your support. This beauty recently reached me and I want to make sure that my paranoia is not striking me again ...

    I compared this cross in detail to my also heavy (but marked) Deschler and found some differences which I would like to hear further oppinions on.

    The following made me a bit curious:

    - the swastica shows a gap to the silver disc, I would say approx. 1.5 - 2.0mm

    - the arms of the swastika seem to be off: look at the 12-o'clock arm in comparison to the 9-o'clock arm; I tried to measure the gaps and this is what I found:
    12-o'clock: < 4mm
    9-o'c'clock: > 5mm

    - the size of the swastika seems simply smaller compared to my other Deschler cross

    - looking really close to the rivets, you can see that there is a gap between the backplate and the rivets and

    - the rivets don't show quite any aging

    - hard to bring to a picture, but looking at the elevated swastika, you clearly can identify a hole within the center of the silver disc

    Well, as said - me being paranoid or over-cautious ... I just want to make sure everything is OK before putting this DK into my collection!

      1st one tries to show the offset in the arms of the swaz, the 2nd one the gap between silver disc and swaz.

        next, rivets: top and bottom one.

        you can clearly see that there is some gap between backplate and the rivets.

              I used to own this very cross, and i still do believe it is a genuine but heavy cleaned example. Eveyone i spoke to and showed it to at the time when i had it had no concerns about it.

              I'm not sure in regard to the hole, but could it be that the swaz at certain point was replaced?

                If (most part) is authentic, then the Swaz ISreplaced in my opinion and the backplate I am not sure about that one, but atleast it is heavely cleaned.
                I would pass on this one.

                  It is my opinion that all parts of this cross are genuine parts. I do not see any traces of the rivets being replaced and I don't think that the backplate is "new".

                  I do not know about the hole in the center since I have never seen a disassembled Deschler. Maybe they all have it? And it fon, what does it tell us? Other than "There is a hole!".

                  The weight is puzzling. To heavy for a light one and too light for a heavy one. I asked Kevin to tell us whether the backplate is Cupal.

                  The cross is extremeley cleaned, that is a fact.

                    IMO THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A FAKE CROSS!! THE WHOLE ONE!
                    Obviously for example, the swastika is a very bad one!

                      well ,everyone else on here and several dealers beg to differ, the concensus is its been cleaned. More than likely taken apart to clean to some degree then reassembled

                        well seems this cross, whether a good one or a fake, has a few issues.

                        My advice save your cash and buy a textbook example with no problems.

                        I have made the mistake of buying pieces in the past that had a few "issues" although still genuine, and with time I realised it is best to stick to textbook pieces even just so you wont have a problem moving it on in the future if you so choose to.

                        cant go wrong with textbook
