I have already seen just same finish on back in other crosses already called Assmann

You should post this in Imperial, it would be better received there.

Ok, I thought it looked TR produced though Richard?

Looks like a good L/54 or is it L54? Can you post a close up of the MM ?
The hardware looks good but i admit to not seeing a one piece before. Are you sure it's a one piece Dion? I ask because on the first photo of post #2 it looks like a seam on the left arm?

              It's a very interesting cross but I wonder if it's really a one-piece?

It has some similarities to crosses known as "Assmann or L/54" including the finish on the reverse as Fabri has said. Also the core and the pin are well-known from typical L/54 TR-era 1914 EKs.

I think it would be very interesting to see a good closeup of the frame.
              Best regards,

You are right, but it is very tightly put together

Are these common? I have never run into this type of cross and had no luck searching the database.

They are not common but also not unknown.

Here is one similar from 5tefan's site, but I wonder if the frame is different? The mark on yours is different, but it's an accepted L/54 mark. Also the finish on the reverse of yours is not known (to me, before this) on marked crosses of this type.

If you check on pg 305 of the Iron Cross 1st class book there is an example

I have the 1914 EK1 with this other maker mark too, but the frame and the finish of the back plate is different.

It looks a bit like this frames!

But better pictures of the frame would be great

It looks pretty much like the frame of the cross that i am using for comparison (it's mine).
Actually i think that it's very interesting that yours cross is marked L54.
                            Stefano

ps Dion i used your picture for the comparison, hope you don't mind.

Yes, I agree it seems to be the same frame as the cross you show Stefano
