    Spanish Cross bronze w/o swords

    Hello!!!

I bought this Spanish Cross bronze w/o swords in this forum in september last year. It is not great, but I had no money to buy another at that time. I assumed that the medal was good because nobody said anything to the contrary in the e-stand.

I would like to know your opinion, please.

          yes it looks strange, Andy....
maybe a ground dug, what ever - but it should be the unknown maker with embossed eagels..
And @catisky - what lousy pics...

          best regards,
          Martin

              Catisky:

Your Spanish Cross without Swords had better be "6-piece" construction!
1 'Cross', 2 'Circular Center', 3 Eagle, 4 Eagle, 5 Eagle, 6 Eagle. TURN THE CROSS 'SIDEWAYS' inspect for a clean seam all the way around between the back of this "Swastika" disc & the front of the "Cross" itself. Inspect the 'Wing Tip' areas of the eagles on the 'BACK' of the Cross....They have to be "SEPARATELY SOLDERED". Look very closely at those areas....Some crosses had very nice 'soldering' jobs on the eagles but you should be able to find atleast 2 that will show you a hint of 'RISE' in the surface of the metal or you should see the solder "fading away" as it was sanded down & cleaned off by the jeweler/assembler.

If you can't find any 'soldered joints' on the back where the wings are, then get a piece of 'fine' grade steel wool & lightly rub one of those areas....If you do not find ANY signs of these eagles being a 'SEPARATE' piece in the construction of this cross....then you have a "DUD"! Not a "variant"....a "Dud"....They were only made as 6pc construction!!

If you do try this test, let us know how things turned out.

                solid

                Hi
There is one unknown maker where the eagles are not soldered on, it is a one piece stamping. I do not know if this is one as it obviously has been modified with the catch and pin and hinge missing. It is very worn and corroded but wait to hear what others have to say.

It could also be that this cross had have a hard life and someone later have refinished it

No, not at this typ of cross...
eagles and base plate are a one piece construction

i agree with Steve and i think everyone can see that the pin is reformed to a screw-construction!? When i say the cross looks strange, i guess the rough ground level of the back side, maybe a ground dug...?

                    best regards,
                    Martin
