Iron Cross 1st Class 1939 - for review

    Hello,
I got this "Iron Cross 1st Class" and would like to hear your opinion (original - fake, maybe a maker if possible).

    Details:
    - Non-magnetic
    - flat
    - pin back
    - no maker mark
    - weight: 14,0 gramm

Regards and thanks for your help/reply,
    Dagaz

Looks to be a fake, front details not crisp or well made at all. Reverse has poor cast short hinge that I've never seen before and the pin is no better. Looks like the fakers are trying to make it look like a W&L "100" type EK.

        Just me 2 cents,
        Mike

Very nice original Schinkel by maker Assmann or L/54. Paint on these is rarely this good!

Here is the EK2 version of this cross.

my apologies then...the paint looked sloppy on the edges, the date looks awful (like it was cast) so I thought maybe it was a cast copy. My apologies, thanks for straightening us out Trevor.

Original unknown maker - could be Assmann

sadly not too long ago a few of these crosses were condemned because they do actually look suspicious in some areas, but as Trevor states it's a good one

Does anyone have another EK1 version to show us? I'd like to see another before I jump on the bandwagon.

                    Thanks
                    Mike

Stefan's are a little different as they don't have swaz's, possibly a different maker

I had thought Chris meant this sarcastically.

While being able to see the swaz does help a bit, I think generally the date, frame and back setup can provide the same story for someone who knows enough of what they are looking for!
