Do you see a problem with the spange or just poking fun at his "authentication"?

      Thanks
      Mike

I don't remember seeing this hardware on a Mayer before. I think the pictures are not the best on the front. I think it need a better look.

I'll have to break out one of the "bibles" of spange authentication or surf the spange threads. You are correct, better photos would help.

          Thanks

This one seems a bit odd, but I am sure better photos would sure help a lot.

              Ok

I believe that the reverse hardware is acceptable on Mayer's. It is not the usual straight pin variant but actually a rarer version.

I might believe it may be a Schickle, but better pictures will help.

Definitely better, clearer, larger photos are a must for these birds. I'm sure the seller would be happy to provide them in order to clear up any doubts.

I'm not the best at this as I don't have the reference material. I sent close ups to the Moderator. I'll be sure to post some better pictures here so I can get more opinions. Thanks for the help though as it is greatly appreciated.

I have seen the hardware on a good Mayer before, and it's not a Schickle as far as I can see. My instinct is that it's a perfectly fine Mayer but let's await better pics to be sure.
                      Best regards,

Below is the email that I got.
"Thanks for the pics. It is a B.H.Mayer with long veins and with a different pin than normally used. I already have one in my collection. I am looking for a Schickle."
                        Here are some more pictures.

My only intrest is to learn more about the spange.
I thought it was a less common Schickle. I would be interested if was. I have
a Mayer but not a Schickle. I was unaware Mayer had this setup. Thanks for making
                          this clear.

                            Hi Dennis,

Schickles often had this kind of pin, it is true. But in this case the Spange is a Mayer, as the obverse die characteristics match Mayer and not Schickle.

Here is s Schickle for comparison:

You can see that the head, the talons, and the shape of the upper right (facing) feather are all different. Also the pebbling is different, but this is hard to spot on the Mayer from these photos.
                            Best regards,
                            Streptile

I just can't seem to get a good picture of it. I'll keep trying... but everything seems to look like the pics I've already posted.
