        Why 27?
        Or are you typing errors?
        it should be unmarked 127.

I don't know about the maker William, sorry. But I LOVE the frosting and the contrast it has with the frame. An exceptional looking piece, for what it's worth.

Agree it is a 127. Very nice crosses almost always superbly made.

(On the estand now as well I see - at a bargain price IMO )

I think it looks like someone handpainted the beading, not very well either

                        Thanks Johnny,

                        You're usually right too

The "hand-painted" beading is actually hand-painted (period) frosting and quite rare to have survived intact like that. This cross looks never to have been cleaned which is very uncommon.

I think this is the nicest "55" I've ever seen.
                        Best regards,
                        Streptile

Its funny, until now I would have thought the first thing to do was to give these a good clean, and now I realise its that last thing one should do. I wonder if this was ever issued? Perhaps it was proudly stored by its owner. Was there a ribbon with it all1knew or did it come from a medal bar?

                            Hello all,

Looked like a "55" to me in my hands and thank you for the confirmation. This came in a Veteran returned lot with both used and unissued items - he took a bit of everything.
