Its a tough call on these but check out Peter Vikings thread on Souval..

          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=143349

If I remember correctly, the type where the 12:00 beading flaw was present were considered war time produced also the swaz on pedestal type.
The Orth/Souval pieces also exhibited this flaw so..... individual judgement is required ;-)
You can also do a search for Souval and check out the models that are deemed post war.

            Hey guys
I was the person who id'd these as souval for the seller, who is a well respected ss collector who also wound up with these two crosses.
As the other guys have said, i'm happy they are authentic souval but as to wartime made? always a minefield but reflected in the price (which I did not advise on)
As the seller states though, IMHO one has been repainted - you can see trails of black along the beading along with what look like brush marks.
That said, the hooks dont look like raging post-war souval type.
Try pm'ing dietrich. I've contacted the seller to suggest a couple of shots with the pins up to fully show the hooks
            regards
            Wittman

I feel they are both pre May 45 Souval frame EK with Souval cores. I believe the 2nd one has had a paint touch up to the swas area.

              Regards,
              Stu

In my opinion this type is possibly postwar. At the very least, the parts were also used postwar in my opinion.

Here are a couple of pics of two postwar crosses that show the same core, frame, and pin.

NB: There are two different crosses shown below, just both postwar.

It actually makes you wonder what other EKs are flying around out there in post war land.
I mean this sounds like a pretty lucrative business, thousands of allied troops all hunting for souvenirs. There must have been a lot of "spare parts" from other manufacturers, lying in the ruins, now worthless. People were desperate for money, Souval was in a position to carry on with business. He could have easily acquired a few hundred unfinished Junker, Zimmerman, W&L parts and soldered them up.. for sale

There is a photo in the book "Nazi Militaria: Fake or Real" (Ray Cowdery) of a woman (presumably in Germany) sitting at her kitchen table, soldering EKII's together. I don't have the book any longer, but I remember that the photo appeared to have been taken in the 1960's.

                      Regards,
