The prices these days are ridiculous.

The question is ................... will it sell??

Well consider this, mine was bought for 450 euro a few years back, thats what 300 pounds from Detlev ? ($555.00)

And thats without the box, so add a hundred plus euros on for the box and 400 hundred pounds would be a bargain (well.......each to there own)

450 pounds with postage and insurance would be great I'm sure.......if the $ is crap unlucky, thats the way it goes.......all us Brits and euro's buy from there due to the exchange.....it will change yet again as in years gone buy.

But you can't compare the pound and dollar.

Just look at PAB's and IAB's over the 300 and 200 dollar mark.......... oh dear, supply and demand and money in the pocket.......what a dangerous hobby.

But you are right, I'm going into East German and Russian more because the prices are just inflated and absurd, and I will not pay them.

Theres no such thing as a cheap dealer.......he just has good business sense and turnover.

I've seen far more rubbish and cleaned up wares sell for more on the e stand !!!

          Kind regards,

          Marcus

            Holy Cow!!

The British Pound is not only killing the Dollar, but also the Euro. 500 Pounds are about 745 Euros That is a lot of money for a cased EK 1. It is a nice EK1 screwback, but nevertheless....... out of my reach I'm afraid.

I am also very curious if this will sell. I am wondering: the upgoing of the prices have to stop one day...or If not only the happy few can go on collecting German World War 2. Too bad

I can see what you are saying there Marcus but £500 still seems a hell of a lot of money for an EK1, however nice.

The Russian quip was in semi-jest, however, now that I give it some thought, it is starting to sound like a good idea.

Anyone have any pointers to good resources regards Russian WWII awards?

              Cheers,
              David.

                Hi

I can understand legit dealers asking top prices for their items as they have to pay their overheads (rent, rates, V.A.T., income tax, building insurance, contents insurance, etc, etc.) and yes , I know we dont want to loose money on our purchases but personally if I were to sell any of my collection I would be looking for a price somewhere between the price offered to me for the item from a dealer (trade price ) and the dealers "for sale" price (retail price). If this price meant that I would be losing money then I simply wouldn't sell.
I think this is only fair as I would be selling to another collector and not a dealer who would be trying to make a profit.
I have noticed that a lot of items in the E stand are top money and more and although they are all coverd by the E stand rules, I personally feel that some members are forcing up the prices and trying to make a killing from the rest of us.
I have bought items from a member in the past but only because they were reasonably priced. That person knows who he is and I would deal with him at anytime because the items and service was first class.

                Only my opinion of course

                Les

That is alot of money to me. That equals mowing the lawn 50 times, or washing the dog 500 times, or taking out the trash and putting up the dishes for years.

I will shop around for now, that one nice EK equals maybe a couple of daggers, right?

All German militaria is expensive. Look at PAB´s, SS cloth and Knight Crosses.

I guess it is like with gas/petrol and beer. Hell to expensive but still we buy it.
                    1. I will not start drinking Coca Cola just because beer has a high pricetag.
                    2. I will not start collecting East German items just because a PAB or a W-SS armeagle has a high pricetag.

                    Keep the faith.

                      All,
No disrespect to the owner - it is a fabulous cross. But a variety of online dealers have cased screwbacks for around $500. Granted, they are not in pristine condition, but some are excellent.

Remember, market prices are determined by supply and demand. WE control the demand. As my wife tells me (and quite often), sometimes you need to say no. Typically thrifty German woman

But are they L/12 marked........this is where the money is in that little L/12 stamped on the back.

A normal screwback marked in a box of course I wouldn't pay $500 for, let alone 500 sterling !!!

I think this is the crux of the expense on this award, it's the maker thingy !

                        Kind regards,

                        Marcus

Is an L/12 all that hard to find, Are they the rare one's?

Aside from the fact that I think L12's are over rated (just my personal opinion) I would not pay £500 for one of these.

Collecting awards is going the way of collecting coins. It used to be that people would collect one of each date (1957, 1958, etc). Then they started to collect by date and mintmark (1964-D, 1964-S) and found that though millions of coins may have been made in any one year, those of one type of mintmark were were considerably rare compared to others. Then it went even further towards collecting varieties of each date and mintmark (1960-D large date, 1960-D small date). Each time someone would discover that a certain mintmark or variety was scarce when compared to others of that date.

It all depends on what we want. I collect for the history so I am happy with an EK1 in good condition that is genuine, regardless of who the maker is. I collect by type. When I get one badge of one type, I'm done with that badge. I don't collect by maker and don't get a charge out of having 10 makers of one type of badge in my collection. My joy at rare makers comes when I get one for which I pay normal price.
