      Alex:

I'm kind of 'sitting on the fence' on it! I like the little bugger & it "IS" possible, but I ask why didn't the jeweler/maker not set the Cross 'suspension eyelet' the same way as the Knights Cross have theirs? If he did, then he would just have to make a small ring to loop through both pieces & it would have looked much better. From the size of your photos the cross looks pretty good & I kind of question why the jeweler didn't put more "detail" into the swords & oakleaves.

It's possible THIS was his height of ability & he lacked the talent to do better on the oakleaves & swords. You've got to get yourself some better photos & get them off to some very knowledgeable dealers in Germany. They were 'fashioned' in that part of the world so there might just be a couple of other examples that can be compared with. Atleast get a comparison on "workmanship" to see if the QUALITY meets the standards!

It's a tough call! I have a beautiful 3 piece stickpin of gold metal, silver & black metal that is a perfect image of the "STAR OF THE GRAND CROSS (1939). See Angolia's book "For Fuhrer and Fatherland, page 372....Just put a stickpin on the back of it & that's it! There is no mention in his book of my "stickpin". Did it exist or didn't it? I seem to have it & I've never seen another in 34 years.

I've got my fingers crossed for you!

          Hello Ron,

I try to get some better photos of the set, I will post them once I got them.

          Hello Greg,

          thanks for your reply.
Your set seems to me simmilar to the one I've posted.
Well, if you have an COA I guess there is not question about the authenticy anymore right

Overall, judging by the quality and detail of this pin I rather belive it's a forgery.

            ALEX:

Don't rule it out yet! Let me make a suggestion to you....If you can, take atleast 4 hours of your spare time [if you have any], & hit atleast 6-8 other sites & specifically look for all their "stickpins" they have. 'Magnify' your monitor screen to get larger images of these pins....look closely at their construction. Keep in mind that they're not all 'works of art'! You'll find some really nice looking 'Panzer' pieces & some with less detailing to them. Some are just poor in their detail & workmanship when you compare. A perfect example is the Luftwaffe 'Radio Operator/Air Gunner' stickpin....take a look at this piece, it looks like a crummy job for a "Hummingbird". There are quite a few Iron Cross pieces out there that also are pretty crummy looking.

Even as 'private purchase' pieces, some of these stickpins clearly show that there wasn't a strict "Standard" for quality workmanship & appearance governed by the manufacturers' association. Some I have seen & in my personal opinion, should never have gone 'out the door' & better yet, they should have been melted down to start over again.

Do yourself a favor & research them a bit & get an "idea" of just what is out there in the way of ORIGINAL stickpins & how they were made. You will find 'beautiful' ones & also 'crappy' ones & they're all 'originals'! Keep an open mind!!

By the way, if you want to sell it to me as a "repro" - give me a price.

            Ron

I strongly doubt that it could be original! Remember this was a very high award! IMO it´s way too sloppy made.
