    One piece Schinkel EK 2

    Dear All,

I just picked up a one piece Schinkel EK 2 out of curiosity. It looks different than my regular three piece Schinkel. A variation or a fake? What are your opinions?

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards,
    Al

For 40 years of hunting militaria from vets and their families, i have never found a one piece early pattern (nothing to do with Schinkle so I don't use that term) Iron Cross. All those I have seen have been in the last 7 or 8 years, several at antique malls with other questionable pieces. I don't believe tham, but am sure I am in the minority.

                  Dear Friends,
Thank you very much for your most appreciated confirmations.

Bob, I know what you mean. I have been collecting for close to half that time and have never had or even seen a "round three" before. Then, starting two years ago, I started seing them everywhere, and in the last six to twelve months I acquired three or four of them. First I thought they were fake but then a friend collector of mine bought a huge complete Luft grouping from the family and there was an EK 2 round three.

                  Best regards,
                  Al

I never had a problem with the round 3 types, but these 1 piece early pattern crosses are just something I never saw until 7 or 8 years ago, and I have owned many hundreds of 2nd Class Iron Crosses. They are just not something I would put in my collection. Of course, I have been wrong in the past and will make other mistakes, in the future.

                      Dear Bob,

That is quite an assumption you make there and I hope you know it does not just include EK2s. I think you will agree that the two one piece Schinkel EK1s shown below are from the same maker than the one piece Schinkel EK2 shown in this thread. Just look at the date style and the pebbled cores. Same maker.

I think you will also see that the reverse hinge/pin/catch conform with early war three piece Schinkels and are nothing like the sad attempt on the more recent Schinkel fakes that fall within your timeline of fake Schinkel observations.

So all of the one piece Schinkel EK1s are fakes as well?

Well, I think Bob just voiced his opinion / concern. Well, he could have left pseudo-science, that he used to support his feelings, out of the game

Anyway, I think there is absolutely no doubt period one piece 1939 EKs existed.

Who is using pseudo science? Bob's comments were based on 40 years of first hand observations. The other side seems to be based on the name on the bottom of those two pics....

                              Dear Andy,

Did you see the smily at the end of the relevant part of my post??? That part reffered to statistics; oh yes, applied statistics is also a science Absolutely no need to jump to Bobs rescue, as he's being appreciated not attacked, with non-contributing posts that start with rhetorics and end in ... casting doubt on peoples qualifications.

I understand the reading possibilities of my post though and appologize to Bob.

You owe some people an appology too, Andy!

                              Best regards,
                              Albert
