    Nichtmagnetisch Deschler !

    Hi guys
I have had the luck to meet this cross on my way and I have picked it up as my Christmas gift.
It 's a rare EKI with a ..zinc ? ..aluminium ? rattling and light core.

          Quit interesting indeed !
The paint is obviously chipping off the plated core ... probably Nickel plated somrthing .
Note the 2 spots the yellow arrows point out which faintly seams to show a possible brass or copper - under - the core plating ?
Could you have a close up look at these spots to confirm if this is the case ?? May need to scrape a small inconspicuos area to get completly through the plating to make a positive determination . First guess would be brass and then copper .

thanks guys, I have maken a check with good lens but I don't see yellow parts in no one area, probably it looks in that pics.
please let me know what angle (of view) you want or send me a pic as example.

The core being not-magnetic .... I curious what it is made of ? If the core is solid Nickel it need not be plated at all .
Now is the core plated or just solid Nickel ?- or 'German Silber' ?.... that is what the fine scratch test would reveal .... only if you want to - of course .

No Doug, I prefer do not touch the core.
It 's not solid Nickel, weight of the cross is around of 17 gr. and zinc is heaviest than iron.
They used a light metal for this one, zinc has a weight close to iron so I think it 's not the right one.

If I recall well the core is silver-plated brass.
Someone on the forum once showed one of these that was partially de-nazified, it had a gold- colored swas.

About crosses weight and material used for cores:

                      weight of n. 2 standard Deschlers I have : about 26 grams

weight of this 3 piece non magnetic Deschler : about 17 grams

                      9 grams less !

pin and hinge have different design, frame and backplate have same dimesnsions so IMO the real difference in weight is in the core.
Now some infos about materials weight :

                      iron : 7.8 Kg/dm3
                      brass : 7.4 - 8.9 Kg/dm3 more or less same than iron
                      Nickel : 8.8 Kg/dm3 heaviest than iron
I think this core doesn't contain these elements/alloy
This core has really light alloy or element
