    Katz & Deyhle...

    Hello All...

It's with thanks to Trevor that I finally managed to find a Katz & Deyhle EK2 packet to add to my '60' cross.
A rare maker and an even rarer packet.

    Hope you all like!

    Regards - Danny

          Thanks guys!

          Sonny -
yes, the marked examples are very hard to find.
I think I have only seen five or six examples here in the past five or so years, and I have been lucky enough to have owned two of those.
I sold my other one to Adrian a couple of years ago.

          Thanks again.
          Regards - Danny

                Looks great -- that's a very nice "60."

To me, a cross with a Packet is ten times nicer than the cross alone.
                Best regards,

And it is still one of my favourite crosses Danny! It was also the last numbered PKZ cross I needed to complete my maker marked collection. I've since added another, unmarked, with a packet too.

Ahh.. I think if I ever find another I will hold onto it!

What surprises me is that both of the marked ones I have/had, I purchased for a fairly decent price, but judging by the amount that become available, I would consider them far rarer than any of the 'Round 3's or 'Schinkel-forms' which command much higher prices.

                      Regards - Danny

That's right -- I think about that all the time. EKs are not always priced for rarity.

Deumer Schinkels are basically as common as many, many maker-marked crosses. Same with Round-3s.

I have thought about doing a little list of EK2s, placed in order of rarity. At the very top would be a marked L/12 or L/18, and the "straight-9" Schinkel. Then the "Prototype" EK2. A marked 60 would be in the top quarter, I would say; so would other crosses like a marked 21 or 125, an Ubergroße "Little Brother," or a Deschler Round-3. Then would come the Meybauer Schinkels and common Round-3s, then the Deumer Schinkels and Ubergroßes, and at the very bottom would be the 65s and 100s, the 55s and S&Ls. I think it would be very interesting to try and rank every known type and variant, marked and unmarked, by rarity alone, and see how the list corresponded to market value.
                        Best regards,

Rare or not Danny, it is a very nice set!
