    EK1/Spange Combo

These don't come up for sale very often. Isn't $3k a little high?

    1. Seems like you've answered your own question there...real ones are few and far between.

    2. That site isn't known for bargain prices by a long shot, but (from what I've heard) the service is very good.

Well, IMO the site is very well run and managed. You will pay full value for the pieces there but if there is a problem I find they are more than willing to fix it.

I have bought many pieces from them and have no complaints.

A pretty rare piece, and just think about how the more scarce items are still going up in value in this economy...like some of the Luft badges in their cases are crazy.

Someone will buy it at this price.

But not me unless I skip a mortgage payment and dont feed the kids for a few weeks

        Cheers,

        Glen

Peter Whamond is a great guy to deal with. I was not questioning the integrity of him or his site. This is just the first one I have seen for sale and didn't think they were worth that much.

            Hi Bernie

I've been checking spanges (of all types) myself quite a bit lately and I know History Shop currently has 2 combos for sale (one cased) you can check out. Even if they are all out of my league (unless the 6/49 lottery came though) I would still choose the Collector's Guild's combo first given a choice even if it is the cheapest by quite a bit

            Regards

            JC

              Salut Jean Claude,

Both History Shop Combos are fakes.
              Best regards,

                Thanks Trevor,

Not knowledgeable enough to know exactly why I did'nt like either of them but the eagles in particular just didnt look right to me. At those prices for fakes, I guess the Collector's Guild $3K combo looks very reasonable and better still if its good...

                Best regards

Unlike the classic and indisputable L/18 combo seen here... http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=Deumer+combo - which was quite obviously designed not to flop forward or spin round - a set up like this one without an anti-rotation device on the spange would be an absolute top heavy freakin nightmare to wear!

I won't therefore be taking a three thousand dollar leap of faith on the construction date of something I am convinced Deumer had no involvement in whatsoever other than at some stage during the war manufacturing the individual components.

I also have my doubts in those combos that are missing either the long pin, or a top hook.

Makes no sence to make it without, as you describe, it would be a nightmare to wear.

Do your homework when buying from that site. Not all pieces are what they seem.

I personally would NOT spend that much money on such a piece. If people pay that price, i also will start soldering Spangen to crosses
