WW1 Pilot with the Knights Cross?

I could use some help with this one. Today I picked up an incredible group of medals and I am confused. This soldier was a WW1 Pilot and he was definately awarded the EK1, Bavarian Bravery Medal, and Hindenberg Medal. He also was obviously qualified for the Bavarian Pilots Badge. After that it gets wierd. Knights Cross? Ground Assault? Spange? Here is a link to the Imperial thread as well.

Looks from the photos to be an S&L "A" type. Could it have been to a son or nephew?

Beautiful set! I, too, am not sure how he could have been awarded an RK. Perhaps it is something that he picked up during WW2 as a trade/purchase/gift and added to his personal medals? A mystery... -Ger

No Gustav Meissner listed as a Knights Cross winner.

Maybe a put together grouping, would be lots of info on him had he won the RK.

If it is really a group....perhaps the RK is his son's?

The Spangen are certainly plausible for a WWI retreaded Luftwaffe officer, as is the Ground Combat Badge.

There are four Meissners listed as RK recipients, one of which was a Luftwaffe paratrooper junior officer KIA at St Lo. The others are Heer, an Oberwachtmeister, a Gen. Lt. and a Hptm KIA in 1945. The GCM and RK would make sense for the paratrooper. Or the GCM could be the elder's and the RK belonged to the Hptm.

I would seek additional info from the family. These awards may have been part of a family display of some kind...the RK in there in honor of a child that died in the war? Who knows.....it is a great cross though

All a bit confusing... an A-type Rk with a (postwar?) tombac loop, no EK's 1914 or 1939. Imperial pilot badge but no TR equivalent...
