Since the Schinkel crosses are supposedly made from leftover frames (or the old dies for the frames) from the first war, we should be able to match up beading characteristics from Imperial crosses and determine the maker (at least in the sense of CD, Fr, WS, etc.). It would be a good project for someone with a large collection of maker marked Imperial EK2's.
Sure, but these frames could have been bought by a "new" Third Reich manufacturer, or another "old" one. We would still not know for sure. But I agree, it would b nice to know who originally made the frames.

Brett, I had the same thought last night,
especially as my one here, has a kind of '#' on the inner corners, quite distinctive...
who has some spare time, and a large imperial collection?
