    KVK 2, KVM, EK core

Hi all, basic stuff here, but nice no matter what. A KVK 2 MM'ed 55 with the correct award envelope, a Kriegsverdienst medal, and the core for an EK.
The thing I'm wondering is: Were the cores interchangeable between 1 & 2? This one has the 1813 almost sanded or filed flat, and I was wondering if they did this so they'd fit in an EK1 frame. Anybody here ever taken one apart to see?
Anyhow, just what the mailman brought today, thought I'd share some basic stuff, since I can't compete with the RK crowd!

    all the best

The cores on an ek1 and ek2 were the same. There was enough recess in the rear of the ek1 frame to fit the core in with out worrying about the "1813" not making the rear frame half sit flat.

If you notice with the core, the front side(with the 1939 and swastika)is some what rounded especially on the edges near the outer arms. The back of the core is somewhat flatter.

Perhaps the "1813" on your core was corroded and some one has attempted to remove the rust.
