    EK2s Identification Help Requested

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to structure my fledgling EK2 collection a bit more and to do so I'd like to identify the unmarked ones I have. Sadly I am not quite expert enough to identify them on sight, which is why I'm calling upon the vast, collected expertise of this forum.

I present to you five crosses that are desperately searching for any info regarding their birth father. I hope there are enough EK Sherlocks out there to help them find them.

For reference sake I'll simply name them:

    - Cross 1 (Marked, but I can't decipher the number.)
    - Cross 2
    - Cross 3
    - Cross 4
    - Cross 5 (A 65 I think, though I'm not quite sure.)

Thank you all very much in advance for all help and suggestions!

    Cheers,
    Jan

              No. 1 are #23
No. 3 and 4 are standart type S&L, I think.
              No. 5 are #100

No. 2 could be a #65, but I am using my phone, so I can't see it clear right now. Someone else will help you.

I am with Sonny on his summary. Nice crosses, the W&L is typically lovely

Thanks for the input and compliments guys!

Still amazes me how quickly the input is here.

I have a few more pieces that should normally arrive in the next two weeks or so, which I'll put up for review as well (two of which will need identification). I'm very much looking forward to that!

                        Cheers,

                          Quick summary:

                          - Cross 1: mm23
                          - Cross 2: unmarked #65
                          - Cross 3: unmarked #4
                          - Cross 4: unmarked #4
                          - Cross 5: unmarked # 100

I'd like to study up on the EK2 a bit better myself, so I'm anxiously waiting for Dietrich Maerz's book on the subject! Hint, Hint ...

You can start with looking in the old threads on the forum. Then you will learn about the different makers also.
Soon you will be able to tell the makers.

I don't think 3 or 4 is an unmarked "4" but we call them S&L/Standard Design because many, many makers used dies presumably supplied by S&L. There are subtle differences between these makers (16, 22, 44, 66, 76, 137, 122, etc etc) and an S&L, but they are hard to tell apart without a lot of work.

But neither one of your crosses was really made by S&L in my opinion.

So I would call your crosses "S&L/Standard Design." But I do think it might be possible to put a maker's name to them... it would just require a lot of hard work comparing them against all the marked examples of various crosses that are not the "easy ones" (1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 11, 14, 15, 21, 23, 24, 27, 60, 75, 86, 98, 100, etc. etc.).
                              Best regards,
                              Streptile
