IMO your first EK II could be by maker L/19.
It's the same distinctive number design.

Interesting unknown crosses - Trevor .
The 'lug' ones are of special interest to me and presently working on another type not shown here .
The in post 16 shown crosses have different cores and also frames . However do display the special characteristic 'connected bead' feature which is unique to S&L dies .

Sorry for bringing this thread back up but I was link hoping and it came up. It got me to thinking about a cross I have as well. I bought it early last year I believe. I knew it was an original but wasn't sure what maker it could be. Being a huge Juncker fan and knowing the lug is a distinctive trait, I figured I would gamble and picked it up.

Fabri had commented on it to me personally and told me while it was NOT a Juncker, it was a very nice, early cross, in his opinion. Is that the consensus on the one posted here as well?

Not sure if they are even perfect matches or not so here are pics of mine. I was sad it wasn't a Juncker when I got it but the unknown mystic it now has adds something to it. And as Trev mentioned about his, it appears to be very well made!

I agree, yours is not a Juncker, but it is the same maker as the "lug" type I show in post 3.

They are very nice crosses.

I don't know how realistic it is or just wishful thinking but I would love, somehow, to figure out the maker.

A good start would be simply to narrow down makers that used a lug on the frame, right?

As far as I know W&L, Deschler and Juncker all had lugs...I am sure it's much more complex and many more variables but just tossing something out there.

As you ask about crosses with these 'lugs' member Robert Pierce had done some time back a list of them of ones he either had or seen - and surprizingly there are quite a few . I should point out that the size of these 'lugs' varies quit a bit . If it was up to me I would make 2 groups . ...'full lugs' and 'half lugs' . Also should be noted that for some makers the ' lug ' was the norm and always there ( example ... 2, 3, 100 ... and these unknow makers ???) and for others the lug/half lug was an 'anomaly' ---> not the norm for that maker but a hard to find variant ....S&L for example .The numbers he lists are .... " 1,2,3,4,,7,40,100,122 and 140 and all corresponding LDO EK2s ..."

Thx Douglas, this is great news! I think I will have a look around and try to dig that post of Robert's up. If he has some ideas/clues he is far more knowledgeable than I and he may well have narrowed it down a good bit already.

Of course there is always a chance that some maker switched frames and one frame has a lug and another doesn't. Beside the anomaly crosses you mentioned, are there any known manufacturers who did this?

I also assume (but don't know) that with Trev being the owner of the original cross posted here which I was referencing that he would have already taken a peak at these various makers in an attempt to identify?

That post is old ... June 2006 .... He was talking about the Juncker lug with others and he happen to mention these makers ..... and I copied the page back then for my file . The thread would be archived by now and I would think any pictures would have been removed by now .
Regards your 2nd paragraf... I will go and dig up something no one has seen yet .....

An example of the same frame die used - with 2 different frame cuts .
Interesting 'lug' frame that has not been shown sofar . And should note .... why is this ? Could be the same maker ?... or only the same die sold to another maker who changed the frame appearance as to look different from the first owner ???????

Thanks for the nice words.

I have never photographed my entire collection at once, and it would be a challenge since nothing is displayed.

That would be a day we are all waiting for, I assure you.
