    Knight's Cross Silks

Collecting 'silks' was a great pastime prior to WWII and many are highly prized collectables today.

I have never seen another 'silk' of Knight's Cross winners. This one is from Koln (Cologne) and lists the winners of the Knight's cross from that city.

Are there others? This would be an interesting collection if other cities or regions made these 'silks'.

Do the tiny crosses mean the RKT was deceased? If so, I find it interesting that they would use a Christian cross instead of the runic symbol for death, as seen on so many gravemarkers and other items during this era.

Nonetheless, very interesting item. What else would these silks be made for?

In the US, many tobacco companies had a 'silk' included with cigars and cigarettes. I cannot guess if this was the case in Europe. If you want to look into the fascinating worlk of collecting 'silks', just do a search engine search on : tobacco silks.Bob Hritz

I bought it from Gailen some years ago. That's maybe where you saw it Gregory?
