    First Class Spange

Another pick up from yester year. I think it was the lone ranger. Anyway, the only marking on it is a 900 right up under the pin assembly. Any guess on the maker?

    Interesting.

    It's very controversial.

Can you say if it's really silver?
    Best regards,

Interesting to see it in silver. As far as I know very few wartime Spangen were struck in silver. Very few.

Most people believe this type to be a postwar fake. However, it has its supporters.

HERE is a very long thread on the type -- just don't expect any clarity at the end.
              Best regards,

                spange

I have an 800 marked cross and had it tested, first time it tested positive as silver then I asked the jeweler to go deeper and it tested negative for silver. It had been silver plated and then stamped. This maybe the same as your spange (just a suggestion). I don't like the head nor the catch and I think it is post war also. Jim

agree with the majority here, pure rubbish...fake in my opinion, and might be silver plated.

You are right Trevor, not very clear on the link. OK, off to the Jeweler in the morning.

Be careful Ben, there are very dangerous fakes in rare stamps
