When posting images, bear in mind that if you crop off extraneous background you can save huge amount of space.
Just to use Chris's excellent pics of his KC with Oaks as an example. It sits at over 600Kb and takes ages to download.
I have taken the liberty of cropping-off the black backround nearer to the piece. It now sits at just over 100Kb, so almost half a megabyte of space was taken up just with the black background. In other words, six images could have been posted taking up just the same amount of space as one. Not just that but the image will show much quicker.

The biggest risk with large slow-loading images is that people get fed up waiting and move on, thus missing the chance to see some great material.

I have also found that there is a great difference in the "quality" settings. the same REAL size scan will be much less KB used (and download time) on "medium" than on "high" setting.

There is no difference that I can tell in the image quality, just the download time and KB "size."
