DKiG Winner ID Help, Please

Hello, folks - I am wondering if there is any way to find out via rank and unit the name of a DKiG winner. I am looking at a tunic belonging to an Oberleutnant of the 12th Panzergrenadier regiment who supposedly won the DKiG. I have been told by the tunic's owner that this man was the only leutnant in his regiment to win the DKiG, but don't have a name or date of award. Any help, as always, is appreciated - especially the guy's name!

Hello
At first glance, I find strange that your guy would have been the only Leutnant who was awarded the DKiG. Indeed, Pz.Gre.Rgt. 12 was one of the crack unit (altough not very known in comparison with DF, Germania or LAH units). The "12" belonged to the 4. Pz. Div. with Pz.Gre.Rgt. 33 and both regiments had the highest number of CCC in gold recipients.
I wil check if I have recipients for the DkiG with the Pz.Gre.Rgt. 12 with the rank of Leutnant.
Regards

Hi Don
Sorry but I haven't found any data related to a Leutnant belonging to the Pz.Gre.Rgt. 12 and reicipient of the DKiG. All the DKiG I know from the "12" haven't this rank at the time they were awarded the DK.
This does not mean your Leutnant has not existed since my data are not exhaustive. In fact, I focuse my original research on KC winners (about 7,500) rather than DK winners (more than 30,000).
Typical french lazy attitude !

Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 12 by Oskar Schaub relates:

1. Deutsches Kreuz in Gold:
1941 1 Oberst,
1942 1 Ofw., 1 Mjr. u. Btl.Kdr., 2 Hptm., 1 Ofw.
1943 1 Ofw., 1 Mjr. u. Btl.Kdr., 1 Uffz., 1 Fw., 1 Lt. u. 1 Fw.
1944 2 Hptm., 6 Fw. u. 2 Uffze.
Insgesamt: 22.

Sorry I haven't taken trouble to look in the pages, but at least you now know that you have to check 1943 entries

And he's probably Lt. Westphal, Bernhard - 1./Pz.GR 12. Verleihungsdatum 20.1.1944 (Patzwall/Scherzer).
