          the spange is 100% OK
it's made by the only 'unknown maker' of spangen

The eagle on the case lid looks "Boerger-ish."

                Interesting...
My "unknown maker" spange came in a slightly different case (leatherette texture/cover eagle design) but I also have a Deumer spange that came in the exact same case as this one. Different case mfgrs (or different design or time of manufacture) but I never paid much attention to this until now!

I knew case design was changed (from scallopped bar design to 2nd pattern) when the spange design changed. I also knew that like the spanges themselves, various contractors produced cases for different spange makers that were all slightly different and unless the cases were marked by the spange makers nothing prevented previous owners, from swithching badges & cases and we would never know

Am I to understand that a given makers' spanges are typically found in same cases so one can tell if the case is original to the spange or not?

                Thanks

                JC

Condition of the spange does not match the condition of the box IMO.

FWIW, I have an Unknown Maker Spange that came in an LDO-marked case.
