Unknown maker spange with great detail and beautiful patina and the EK I matches it perfectly: beautiful set! Finish on EK 1 looks pebbled? I have an EK 2 WW1 with textured finish but never saw another (so far) so I wasnt sure what to make of it. Now I know there are others "out there" so there is hope!

Jean-Claude, the "pebbled" finish of the core is because it is made from cast iron. Stamped steel, of which later cores (and all 1939 cores) are made, has a smoother surface.

Thanks for the info Trevor. I only have a few EKs and all are smooth except the EK2 14 so I wasnt sure if mine had been tampered with until I noticed the finish on Jon's EK1 and your explanation
