when an iron cross has some missing paint and a little rust is ther a way to stabalize it with out damaging the rest of the paint?

Brush the rust away and keep the cross dry. Don't do anything else! It will outlive you.

The reason why all iron Crosses rust, is that collectors have such a love for them, that they cant stop licking on them.
To put it short: Stop licking your crosses. That will stop the rust and tarnishing

Just go to your coachbuilder and ask him to do a nice job, but don't let him changing the color

This thread is really very interesting for guns or blades but I think that The only way to keep and protect medals is the one gave by Dietrich.

It could be but as far as I am aware, once rust appears in anything it continues unless nuetralized. I really don't know the answer but it might be worth PMing Rich as he was very helpful and had great knowledge on this. Again I don't know but his opinion is worth a go.
I hope someday I have an RK to worry about too

From my experience, even active rust won't really get worse if the item is kept in a stable environment. I have a helmet w/ a small spot of active rust on it that was pictured almost 30 years ago in a reference book. The rust spot looks the same now as it did then
