    Original "Lead" E.K.2 !!!

    Hi guys,
This is a picture I've scanned from a Signal book.
Some members on a Navy boat earned a EK 2,but no EK 2's were available at the moment.
They decided to make some on board of the ship and here's the result !
    Fresh baked crosses !

    Nice pick-up

    Hi Jos,
Where did you get this picture! This kind of photo's are so very rare. I wonder how they made the die for the I.C's.

A friend of mine had a couple of period "Signaal" books, they are great, they can learn you a lot.

        Hi Jos,

Did the signal article specifically say "lead" or could another metal (eg bronze or silver) have been used? Just curious. Very interesting pic and shows on-board ingenuity - thanks for sharing!

I have a lead EK1 which came with a group and was made on board.

From the photos the castings look like they are made of lead, I would have assumed that this was probably the material most likley used due to the lower melting point, ease of use and availability.

              Here's another....

From German Raiders, by Paul Schmalenback:

Caption: "Finishing Iron Crosses whose awards have been advised by radio. Knight's Crosses were similarly produced for commanders."
