    Uncommon flyweight S&H EK1 of approx. 11 g - Help needed ;-)

    Hello,

you know, I try to get all types of EK1! But what I have found yesterday, is something I have never seen it before! This EK1 is very thin and the weight feels totally different to other EK1. I have measured 11,1 gram only! From the textbook it looks like a Schauerte & Hoehfeld. But take a look to all the flaws at the frame. Never seen such a bad quality before. The core is magnetic.

Do you know this flyweight type? What could be the reason for this weight reduction?

Here is a comparison of the thickness Schauerte & Hoehfeld vs. Steinhauer & Lueck (Standard)

Normally weight is directly related to mass and/or material. Since the core is iron, physics leaves only "less material." Since it is known that later Iron Crosses were made from thinner sheet metal instead of thicker plate material, I would venture to say that the swastika is hollow.
You can also, by using the famous "Dreisatz", calculate the weight reduction due to the thinner backplate (under the assumption that the core is the same volume and make) I am too lazy to do it right now.

Another good starting point would be to measure the thickness of a regular S&H cross and go from there. On the other hand, I do not find the difference of less than 2 gr. very dramatic.
