    1914 EK1 with Spange Attached

I see this being offered. I know nothing about it except that it is very rare. What is your comment upon it? Please reply.

In my opinion, almost certainly not a period job.

Yeah, the cross looks like a good CD maker and the spange seems ok, although the photo makes the detail look soft. No telling when they were mated or by who.

Maybe I need glasses, but I don't see the seam between the clasp and the cross????

You're right Ben, and that's what adds credibility to this combo - made the same way like FeldMarchall Milch's, one perfectly cut silver backplate to accommodate both, the spange and the cross!
            I like it!

No clue if the combo's good or bad, but it's certainly a very cool looking piece

Another thing to consider: these combo's could be purchased factory-made, wouldn't it have cost a small fortune to have one made by a jeweler??

I would go out and buy one, less complicated and most likely it would save a lot of RM....

Here's my problem with this one.

There are only a handful of cores that were used in EK2s, but not EK1s. This is one of them (as far as I know). So this piece was made with an EK2, and a Spange. Not impossible to have been done wartime, certainly, but somehow less likely to me.

In any case, I would not touch this one.

If anyone has a (flat) EK1 with this core in it, I'd love to see it.
                      Best regards,
                      Streptile

Here's a pic I grabbed from another thread showing this maker's EK2, and EK1 with different core (smaller crown). The one we see here on this Combo is a well-known EK2 core. Maker is known as "CD" or "CD800" and is probably related to maker known as "square punch" or "[]".

                          Best regards,
