Buying a EK 1 opinions please

I'm hoping to buy my first Boxed EK 1 1939.

As I don't have any form of reference other than pictures to go on can someone give me their thoughts on this unmarked piece.

The asking price is 240 Euros.

    Thanks

    Graeme

          Hi Graeme,

I like both the cross and the case. I've never seen one of these crosses maker marked. The pin is rather distinctive, almost as if for a Spanish Cross. The main pin has what I refer to as a milled finish - it looks like the manufacturer has machined or milled the pin it into it's final shape, rather than the more usual die-struck type of pin. There are striations down the length of the pin on the curved edges - you can just make this effect out in the reverse image. Looks like a CB item? I'd say a reasonable dealer price. Good Luck - I think you'll do fine with this one!

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

I would be more than happy to have both this Cross and the case in my collection. I have no idea what the current exchange rate is between the dollar and the Euro, but if the price is right jump on it.

              Hi

I have no problems with your choice. I have seen these maker marked and this is a typical pin from the manufacturer P.Meybauer Berlin

The price seems ok as well

                Thanks for your help guys.

Owing to the favourable comments here I have purchased the cross. Now I only have to wait for it to arrive!

                Cheers

That's a good cross, Graeme. I have one exactly like it:

George that IS a nice Cross!

The case looks in excellent condition too. Does the inside of the lid have a makers name?

                          Graeme,

There is no name or mark on the inside of the lid (or on the cross itself), but here's what the outside of the case looks like:

                          George
                          George

                            EK1 "L / 13"

                            Hi Guys !
I post links to my EK1 maker marked "L / 13 " , Paul Maybayer , Berlin . Cilck " Forrige" to look at front of the EK1 . I also post links to my unmarked EK1 , with the same hinge as Wee.G`s cross .
My unmarked EK 1 is cased , but case is missing top filling inside .
